IN MEMORIAM: JOHN AMUNDSON
IN MEMORIAM JOHN AMUNDSON
John Amundson (second from left in the photo) passed away yesterday. You probably haven’t heard of him because he was the most unassuming man. An Air Force pilot, John flew the B-47 Stratojet in the Strategic Air Command. But perhaps his most notable achievements were his flights in the U-2 Spy Plane over Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. John and his fellow Air Force aviators kept tabs on the Russians so we could avoid World War III.
I knew John from flying with him in the Flight of the Grumman Cats. He flew the F8F Bearcat in the formation. His skill and modesty made flying with him an experience never to be forgotten.
He was a magnificent husband and father and an adored friend.
May his memory be a blessing!
